I finally managed to get some good pictures of the Tiger Swallowtail butterfly that likes to stop at my balcony garden. The flowers it\u2019s feeding on are Sweet Williams. One of these days, I\u2019ll manage to snag pictures of the resident female hummingbird. But she\u2019s fast and usually gone shortly after I hear her telling off the cat for getting between her and the rest of the dianthus on the inside of the balcony.
\nThe bonus photo is an example of what happens when you rotate containers without changing the soil. Volunteer dwarf snapdragons are snuggling up against my romaine lettuce. Not that I mind. They add color variety to that edible emerald wall.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, my ladybug pictures didn\u2019t turn out as well as I wanted. At least I have them in my lettuce this year. Earlier this week, I was fighting an aphid attack on my jalapenos and considered herding a few ladybugs to do the fighting for me, though that would risk leaving the lettuce garrison a little short-handed. Luckily, they found the treasure trove of juicy green snackpacks on their own and saved me the effort. After a couple of days of gorging, the jalapenos are noticeably aphid-free.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
